Neil says, "I tell it like I see it here at BGO now, lots of things don't seem quite right here. "

Lots of things don't seem right when you have little idea of what's going on. The conditions of contest, which were printed in the brochure and made clear again and further in the pre tournament briefing after the 2010 ABT awards presentation, included the explanation that the goal of Saturday's play + plus needed playoffs was to select the field of 8 which would play single elimination from that point, with all players starting equally.

The players with records of 4-2 and 5-1 did receive byes during rounds which began with odd numbers of players. The records don't include the bye, because I didn't want there to be later confusion for the playoffs as to who had gotten a bye if they existed. The player at 5-1 survived the day with less than 2 losses, and therefore qualified for the final 8. The player at 4-2 had to playoff, and was precluded from getting a bye.

I will not quarrel with anyone who thinks there were aspects of this event and format which could be improved upon, but I will object to comments made by people who don't know what the conditions of contest were, and then suggest that things don't seem right. What are you trying to suggest anyway? If it's that I don't know what I'm doing that's fine, it could well be accurate, but at least be clear about it, rather than leaving it open to the interpretation that I do know what I'm doing and somehow was playing fast and loose for reasons as yet unspecified.

And yeah, I realize this is a little bit over the top, but that little post, if we're going to tell it like it is, was pejorative, and undeserved, IMO, and I'm not inclined to just sit here and be philosophical about it. You couldn't just ask if there was some actual logical reason why something was the way it was, rather than imply that I've perpetrated something nefarious? Next I'm going to hear how my required use of clocks resulted in a 5% drop in attendance at my tournament, even though the open division, the only folks required to use clocks, actually increased by one. Or two, depending on whether you want to count the player who only played in the Masters and not the main event.
