In Response To: Pitt Sunday AM before play begins (Robert Maier)

Rob, last year this fine T was 100% Swiss-elimination. Those with two losses (except I think those who managed 5-2 and played off for a prize) were completely and quickly eliminated. IMHO, this was almost the perfect format for a 2 day Swiss. However, quite a few players complained about not having the 3rd chance to play..ie like a normal main/conso/lc event so the way to make last year's event perfect is to have all of those with two losses play off for some single conso prize (I realize that might be complicated and that the winner should get more than 3/4 th prize money so call it L/C for ABT pts)

Yes, I do realize that this year's method is to try to keep those with two losses in contention for 1st place, but isn't it better and more fair to have them in contention for a lower place and not have any playoffs where someone 6-0 is the same as someone 7-2 ? (Ignoring byes)

Anyhow..it is good to experiment with new and different formats and adjustments. Rob, you certainly one of the smartest people I've ever met and most capable with formats. However, I will continue to state that a Swiss elim with a playoff cannot be fairly done unless by some stroke of luck all those in the playoff have the same record and no late buys can be given.

To me, this year's event sounds like a throw back to the Swiss and playoff days. If that is your intention, so be it. You and others are free to like that method, and I am free to not think it optimal, necessary or fair.

Please correct me if I am missing something, but doesn't this year's event require 12 rds to finish? How many rounds were needed last year (was it 11 or 12?)

I will note that your Swiss Elim last year and Madison's proceeded without issues or problems.

My comments, criticisms, barbs, or whatever are intended to hopefully improve future events. My appologies for being quite brash and I realize that this sometimes is unexpected and/or causes some to missinterpret my motives.

All this being said, I again hope that someday your T, when it falls over a holiday weekend like this, can be 3 days rather than 2 for the main event.

Thx .. neilkaz ..
