Question for all

I think the rules should at least maintain the illusion that a regular player can read and remember them. In my opinion, adding a whole bunch of arbitrary numbers to the description of mechanical processes (you must shake at least 4 times, you must have at least 2 fingers covering the mouth of the cup, you must release at least 3 inches above the board, etc) sort of makes the rulebook into a joke.

If there are no measuring devices handy and no method of instant replay available, then insisting that we can somehow know whether a given roll was released 2.5 or 3.5 inches above the board is pointless. It feels better to some people to have a specific number in there, but since it's an arbitrary figure that is no more enforceable in practice than "a discernible height," nothing has actually been improved.
