I used to play chess at master strength and im ok at BG (2050ish).
In my opinion chess is more difficult to learn than BG. In the pre-internet days it used to take about 7 years to get to master strength assuming you had a college level intellect. That also assumes you work 30++ hours a week 50 weeks a year and play a lot and you start in your teens. Probably easier nowadays with bots and the internet. If you want to be a WC chess player basically you have to live and breath the game and be very talented.
To be a good Bg player (1900+) probably takes about 2 years nowadays with the bots and the internet. You still have to work reasonanbly hard. There are also more good books now.
A good friend who is both a chess and bridge master (close to wc in both) told me that "probably" chess is a better game (whatever that means). I thought at the time he was referring to the overall complexity of the game.
Another buddy (GO and chess master) told me that GO is more complicated than chess. In fact he said that the complexity is so high that you get better at GO as you get older. That is very interesting if true. Maybe somebody could confirm that.
Anybody know about gin rummy, canasta or hearts? i was thinking of learning these games.
