My goodness. This statement applies perfectly to backgammon if you consider the limited backgammon gambling opportunities.
It has always been my impression that one of the great differences between backgammon and chess was the memorization required. Thus, people such as me with poor memory ability, can still become strong backgammon players by pattern recognition. The skill set required for the two games seem quite different.
Is it possible that a strong chess player could never become a strong backgammon player?
