A 31 to play

At DMP I like clearing the (potentially troublesome) 7-point, but here with gammons worth m/l their usual value I'd put a checker on the 4-point "where it belongs" with 4/1*. (That might even be best at DMP, for that matter.)

After hitting, though, the play isn't over. All of 4/3, 7/6, and 8/7 are worth considering, along with 2/1. If opp fails to roll an entering hit it probably doesn't matter much. So give him/her a hit and then take a look. If you get hit, hopefully you enter with half the roll, but what do you do with the other half? Rehitting loose would be nice, which argues for 4/3 (diversifying deuces) or 2/1. Also you'd like to bounce into opp's outfield with 3-L, 4-L, 5-L where 'L' is some kind of large die. If you can do that you probably don't want an extra blot hanging around on your side. Throw in the fact that for your 4/36 fans you REALLY don't want another blot lying around narrows things to two choices.

So it appears to be between 2/1 and 3/2. Normally the 23-20 game is better than the 24-20 game. Part of that has to do with Blue needing to clear two points (7- and 8-) shadowed by opp's 23-point. But with four points/spares bearing on the 2-point (whether you're hit or not) compared to three, maybe it's right to switch 2/1. I think I'll go with that, although I'm not even sure I'd have seen it OtB (so pay homage to QF):

4/1*, 2/1.
