I always assumed people played legal moves but if I can play illegal moves and force my opponent to correct them isn't that an advantage to me? So on the opening roll I get 6-3 and play 3-3 and see what happens; it doesnt hurt.
I think you miss the point. The alternative to playing legal moves is not that people are allowed to cheat by making illegal moves to their advantage. Legal moves means that the players agree that illegal moves cannot be condoned (as allowed under the rules) - even when the illegal move is to the mover's disadvantage.
