It is a faulty money management and superstitious thinking, that lead to the wrong decision. The explanation of the player should be a hint for him to quit for a while the game and calm down. And perhaps his bankroll was to short. In a fourhanded chouette, there are big swings possible, and when you drop cubes you should have taken, you will give money away. Playing a 10$ chouette four handed, you need a bankroll to pay 200 to 300 points without hesitation, so you need 2000$-3000$ cash. Perhaps the player should have played in the 2$ or 5$ chouette. The end of the day should not be important. You should consider it as an endless session, stopping accidental.

But a hustler could tell you far more. The above is right in a perfect world. Depending on the opponents, it could be a not so costly tell, to build up a colonel whiteflag image, inducing later in the game premature doubles. It is like playing 64P instead of 64S in the opening to create a goofy image.
