Live Tournament Observations

As a competitive online player, my goal has always been to take my opponents' money. Backgammon has never been a social game. For me backgammon is an individual competition, not a team sport. So doubles backgammon is contrary to my heads up view of backgammon. Various division for different skill set is also contrary to my competitive backgammon nature. I feel that I should be able to beat anybody at any time. Don't do me any favors by putting me with a group of less skilled players. Of course, I realize that there are more talented players. But if I were to face Neil K., my inner thoughts would be, "I'm going to whip his behind." I will need a bit of luck. But as an expert player, I can beat him.
However, I believe that I am missing some of the fun of backgammon. Chicago is a great backgammon town. I will attend a few of these fun local events. Tournament backgammon should continue to offer doubles, Battle of the Sexes, and various divisions. These competitive events are excellent social interaction. Chouettes seem to be great fun between players. There is more to backgammon than heads up, online money play that I have enjoyed.
