What is more disrespectful and discourteous....insisting on following the little rules or asking for relief from the ones you dont like?
There is nothing fundamentally disrespectful or discourteous about insisting on following the rules. It is the manner in which the insisting is done. Being a jerk when you are in the right is never right. There is nothing here to suggest that player B acted like a jerk in his attempt to enforce the rules.
However, it is not at all clear to me that Player A was asking for any relief from rules he didn't like. The fact is that he asked permission to roll on the right, and asked permission to change direction, and accepted his opponent's decisions. Later, he sought the director's opinion on how he would have ruled. These are not the actions of someone looking for an edge. These are the actions of someone who doesn't know the current rules.
I see nothing disrespectful or discourteous about the way that either player acted here.
