explain the preferences or at least reference them

changing the preferences for listing, display & sort can noticably improve this forums ease of use. the description on the preferences page is good enough, but it's not obvious to look there in the first place

i set mine to list = compressed, display = guest, sort = mixed so the main page (index) only shows the titles & number of replies, then when clik a title get to see all the messages in 1 page instead of having to keep clicking for 1-2 sentence replies etc
