Daily Quiz 4/7/11

Problem 1. Although 18(2) does one very good thing, it seems to leave a position that can be easily attacked. It also takes the pressure off opp's blot. To counter those two weaknesses, I prefer keeping the 21-point and playing 11/8, 22/16.
Problem 2. If you'd just put your 3rd roll rollout results on this site... 24/23, 13/11 does two good things without much risk. That's my OtB play and I don't feel like dancing with QF (even if I were good at that).
Problem 3. 5-point looks worth trying for, even if it plods my tricky opp into cubing here. Still, I have to respect the score so not lifting the blot on the 14-point (and duplicating my own 6's with 24/21) doesn't tempt me. 6/5*, 14/13, 24/22.
Problem 4. Gammonphobia works on me. 22/21, 13/10.
Problem 5. 11% takepoint. That's a Kleinman Count (KC) of 3. Using Ward: Blue gets 2 credit for the checker off, 4 debit for the (over 2) 4 extra checkers on the 2-point, and 2 debit for the gap on the 4-point. Result is 48 pips (Ward). White gets 3 debit for one too many checkers on the 1-point (2) and 2-point (1). That's a Ward pipcount of 59 (so far) and an interim Kleinman denominator of (48 + 59 - 4) = 103. What penalty for White having a checker in the outfield leads to a KC of 3? D^2 ~3*105 = 315 --> D~18. So (59 - 48 + 4 + penalty) = 18 means penalty = 3. I don't think it's that much, so TAKE. Note that if penalty = 0 you get a KC of ~2.2 which is 85% cubeless wins for White. Looks like close to a redouble even with no penalty (and I think there should be some penalty), so... R+T.
