Does anyone else play 'decubes'?

But as I understand it the players can choose whether to accept the decube. So if you make a bad double in order to bluff a pass, you will have to live with it if if a player takes and refuses your decube. The only way you can gain from the decube itself is to give it when they should not accept it, in which case they should never accept any decube. If your team cathces on to this, however you may gain from giving the decube even knowing it will never be taken, as it gives the signal that you are indeed giving early cubes that are big takes, and not even proper doubles, hoping to get equity back from people who will accept the decube. This may cause them to take more freely, allowing you to get bad takes later... It sort of becomes a mind game of bluff and counter-bluff, and this is what I mean by it possibly being able to mess with people's evaluations.

If played purely competitively, I'd just ignore the decube option totally if it were part of the game.

However, if this - as you also partly indicate - is more a social / instructive part of the game, I guess it has merit as long as you enjoy it.
