If you set the bot level down so it moves instantly, it may accelerate your own play. Back in the JellyFish days, I consistently scored better against JF6 than against JF5 which played a little poorer but made its moves in a split second.

Also it is worth checking out your GG takes - as you mention, playing against the bot gives little training in proper taking as it almost always gives takeable cubes, and very seldom big drops.
