The solution to this, and also a couple of the other points Stein and Chuck has mentioned, is to bring down gnubg to 0-ply, and then add a little noise to it's cube decisions.

I tried that long before, but that usually made GnuBG just double even earlier (when no double is correct).
That's why I asked in one earlier thread if XG2 could have an option "do not double small doubles". For example, it would not double if double/take equity is lower than 0.850 and it would not double if difference between no double and double/take is less than 0.050 (both values could be user selectable)

But even that will help only with take/pass decisions. It is still mystery to me why I make so much more checkerplay errors when playing on GG, compared playing vs GnuBG.
