...Could you please explain a bit more why an extra checker off is in the 9% ballpark?
Hope Kit doesn't mind me quoting nearly verbatim from his Cube Reference Positions book. (Everyone should have this book.)
Assuming opponent has the perfect bearoff structure (closed board with a spare on each of the 4-, 5-, and 6-points) and you have a crashed board (where there is unlikely to be any rolls that don't bear off at least 2 checkers) AND one on the bar, then player with closed board wins (cubeless):
6-off -- 70%
7-off -- 61%
8-off -- 51%
9-off -- 42%
You can see that the difference between neighboring values is 9-10%.
