Therefore, you could try 16/11 8/4, volunteering an early blot. The idea is that if White jumps out with a 5, hitting, your timing will improve.
I don't quite understand that argument. As I see it, White most likely will not be forced to jump out soon. Thus, your just giving the opponent an additional option that he will only use if it's profitable for him. Am I misunderstanding that, or is there another upside to 8/4? Perhaps it's that now is a good opportunity for starting to clear?!
