Blue is behind in the (pipcount) race. The status quo is insufficient. 20(2) makes a defensive point and is a defensive tactic. Such a play protects assets, but here I think White has an advantage in assets. Blue's current GP isn't about protection.

If Blue makes the 5-point he as an advantage in board development. That will often pay off when both sides start hitting blots. Maybe White will roll one of his perfect PoH rolls, but he is an underdog to do so. Blue can challenge White to duke it out (with homeboard advantage) by making his own 5-point. That is my play.
