I will come to the defense of these sites since my club is guilty (according to you) and not mentioned in your note. What you do not seem to realize is that all of the efforts are very likely to be entirely volunteer work. The local clubs in general are not profit making enterprizes and many do not even have any rake on entry fees. I entirely disagree with your premise that a local club should pay for either a domain name or a paid hosting site with no ads. I could care less if it is fancied up to 2011 web site standards. The reality is that a simple website provides the necessary info to get new players to come and regulars rarely even look at them at all.

Here is what a local club web site must do, nice to have, very nice to have....

Must do.....

1) Provide current information on when, where, how to get to their meetings and contact information for the club director

Nice to have.....

1) Rules 2) Results 3) Point lists etc

Real nice to have....

1) Brackets, elo ratings etc.... ala the usbgf ratings site and several local clubs.... Give kudos to Barry Silliman www.beltwaybg.org for doing this for about 10 years now (but he is an IT geek by profession)
