I thought the criticism a bit harsh, and thought the 'green monster' might appeal to someone who likes green.
I challenge you:
Go to that green monster website and carefully read all the text there. Don't read to fast, just normal speed.
Now return to this website or look into some wall (both white background). Is white white? Do your eyes hurt?
but would follow the advice given if I ever get to build one.
Chiva gave an example of his site, but that is professionally made and I don't expect anyone else to build some similar backgammon site.
http://www.wbf.net/ is also professionally made but it is NOT good. Music that preloads and can't be turned off - for me that's also instant Crtl+W. (Any kind of music on a website is fail. Please don't do that) Dice animations? Please.
http://www.chicagoopenbg.com/ is one simple, small, good looking website. As you can see, even on good looking website you can find all needed information. Somebody who is used to visit a lot of websites can there find information even easier (because everything is logical) than on some poorly looking website.
