One thing I find peculiar. I don't know what Phil has said - I'm not privy to all of that, but I'll just make an observation.

I think when an event is advertised in public like on BGO and advertised on the site it was played on in advance you can't really claim a private event. The USBGF wanted people to know where/when the event was. If they felt players would have been intimidated I think the USBGF took the wrong approach. Since I don't know anyone's intentions I can't really say what happened here.

I was at the event, tried to watch all the matches and did save the logs of every match played, but didn't analyse any of them. I was curious how collegiate players play with a few months of study. It became clear cubing has a lot to be desired at this point - I didn't need to run the matches in the bot to understand that. One 5ptr dragged on for over 75 mins.

Overall though I thought they played pretty well all things considering. There were a couple players that stood out and may have a bright future in the game.
