Then having them play competitively in tournament at this time may not be in their best interests as well?

We are more than likely in most cases not talking about children here. These people are in college, and chose to be a part of a collegiate event with a prize at stake playing in a publically advertised event (BGO and on SHG) basically inviting people to come watch.

Either the USBGF ran this event with the wrong intentions and wrong expectations or they ran it as it appears and the criticism that these college students can't take some potential criticism is a red herring.

I can think of a reason why someone (and not a college student) may not wish to have the PR's made publically available and it has nothing to do with embarrassing a student.
