Again, if I did this I would absolutely refuse to allow my opponent to let me change it, if offered, because I was dumb enough to not pay attention or play well, and I deserve the appropriate penalty.

I completely agree with this and would have refused to correct my massive blunder.

There is one additional point which has not been mentioned. From what I understand, the tournament at issue was run without the use of clocks. Apparently a 9-point match took 4 hours to complete, causing the player to become fatigued and making the blunderous play. I can accept being extremely annoyed with the director in regard to the decision of not allowing matches to be clocked, however, I do not know whether either player approached the director early on and asked that a clock be placed on a match which was obviously running way too long.

My point is, I still can't blame the tournament policies, i.e. lack of clock and 4-hour 9-pointer, for my blunder, no matter how much I would like to do that.
