Here's one from the Party Gammon Million (a shame we don't have many more events like this!!!) where director Markowitz did the common sense and correct thing.

A player had rolled a joker 44 and entered, hit somewhere while pulling the hit checker towards the center of the board, but leaving it between the tips of two points and then making a point on his side of the board. His opp complained lots, but the ruling was that the checker was to be placed on the bar. My understanding here if one really wants to get to the letter of the law is that an illegal position has been created since there's no way to tell which point that checker was on.
