In Position 1 it doesn't matter where the rest of the checkers are positioned. The foremost thought should be to escape the match losing backgammon. Not running one of the back checkers is inexcusable. To not do so accomplishes absolutely nothing, except to enhance the chances of losing the match to the backgammon. Focus and concentration. The fact that I didn't illustrate the position and people focused on that, is telling.
