Petanque

Petanque is obviously played a lot in France. Bocce is played in Italy. And in UK it's Lawn Bowling.

I think Petanque is the most widely spread in Europe. At least in Denmark, but it's not as big a game anywhere but in France.

I've not played it much myself, but I have always found it very interesting. If you are into games of the like (precision/strategy games) ranging from golf to backgammon (games like snooker, curling, etc.) I'm positive you'll find Petanque very fun indeed once you experience some good players go at it.

So - two years ago I layed out a piste in the back of my garden! Just for the fun of it. And what a great thing to do. It's 13 x 3 meters of grass you don't have to cut :-) And it has been used more than I had hoped for! When the family is here everyone play, from age 7 to 75. When friends are here, the sun is shining, the red wine or pastis is in the glass, it's fun to play a game or two.

Same year the Danish Championships were played at the local club we went to see it - an eyeopener. Much more skill and strategy involved rather than just tossing the damn balls close to the pig than most people think. So I got a bit hooked to play more competitively. Obviously I thought I had a ton of talent for the game like I think with all games/sports! I mean how hard could that be to learn!! ;-) He he...

But - there's not enough time in 24 hours to do all the stuff you'd like to, so petanque for me has never moved to the next level - it's still just in the back of my garden with family and friends ;-)

So, now I've made it a habit of asking people I see / know if they like to play Petanque. Maybe you stumble on someone who can really play the game!

Of fellow DBgF'ers I found one so far: Georges Velando. Guess which country he's from?
