For the bot strength the Michael Depreli Bot Comparisons give a very good overview, especially the strength/speed chart which allows you to show how strong the different bots are when running at a level which are about equally fast. This shows that XG+ beats the opposition by a clear amount, with Snowie and GnuBG basically tied and BGBlitz not too far behind (note, GnuBG3 performance is hurting as its 3-ply is not meant for cube evaluations at all. You will want to use 3-ply checker with 2-ply cube for a proper setting).

The only reason I have for not actually using XG, is not having a Windows computer, and being somewhat hesitant to buy one just for using XG, I would guess anyone with a computer touched by the evil empire will want to get XG. As for GnuBG vs BGBlitz, they are both available anywhere, and while BGBlitz is OK, I settle for the better.

BUT, there also is a nifty version of BGBlitz for mobile phones, BGBlitz2Go, that will run on almost anything that has a mobile JAVA engine, and plays an entirely decent game. That app just rocks big time.
