Hotel rooms for college players coming to the Chicago Open

You must have missed my post in the other thread as well. I have already offered a $20 discount to any college student who plays in the Intermediate or Open Division. I have also offered a 10% kicker to those same players should they cash in any event (I told Ben he cannot win the kicker as he has already won an Intermediate Tournament).
Joe: Are you asking the backgammon community to subsidize these players, while you benefit from the subsidy?
There are two answers to this question.
1) I am not asking the backgammon community to subsidize these players, while I benefit financially from the subsidy?
2) Yes I would be benefitting as our entire community would from the fact that more young players will be getting live backgammon tournament experience. My #1 reason for joining the USBGF as a Founding Sponsor was to support the growth of backgammon ensuring its longterm viability in the US and around the World. My efforts in attracting these young players are only a continuation of working toward that goal.
Finally, I fully endorse what Joe is suggesting that all tournament directors do. Give all students a discount equalling the rake from their entry fee. This would save the student money while not costing the directors anything other than the effort necessary to have that one more person in the tournament. I urge all directors to adopt this policy. Heck, if I had, I would have saved five dollars per student. :-)
