- 1. 13/7* 6/1*
- This seems to make the best use of the made 3pt, and make Blue a reasonable favourite.
- 2. 7/5(2) 10/8(2)
- 5(2) seems obvious, it is good for any upcoming attack (attack 1, prime 2), and good for the race. Blue leads somewhat so isn't too bothered about the priming aspects (attack 1, prime 2), and only 65 escapes the runner completely. Then I don't think Blue should venture fly shots, and 13/11(2) looks inflexible. The 8 pt is fine here with the 2pt still unmade.
- 3. 24/13
- Blue wants to race, and I think he should try to use this opportunity. 14/8 13/8 does leave the back man out of harms way for now, but unless Blue rolls a perfect 65 later he will leave a similar shot, but probably at a worse time when White is more developed. And if missed, the lone blot does represent some degree of flexibility (even if it is also a liability that must be addressed). Not sure here, but must choose.
- 4. 13/11 13/9
- White's position looks superficially brittle, with few spares, and if it really was I'd be sure to pay later. But I don't think it is, it costs White next to nothing to release her mid - almost all the pressure on Blue's mid comes from the barpoint anyway - and with 2 extra spares White has all the flex she needs to continue building her forward position neatly. Thus the main argument for paying later is Blue's 2 blots which may be painful in hit - hitback scenarios. However breaking 5 to make 3 and 1 is ugly beyond words, and 8/2 looks rather stupid, so 13/9 13/11 remains.
As they say, "when in doubt pay later" - this must also mean that if I pay now I get to be quite sure about my play.
- 5. Double/take
- The BG encyclopedia I think rates a 5pt holding game 20 pips down against the midpoint with 7pt made as a small take. Which means this must be a clear take. With many spares, and quite some time to roll the needed doubles, I think Blue should still double. The score is quite moneylike, but the 2-pt deficit adds a little more reason to turn it.
