Very simple. You are not buying your way into the International Backgammon Championship for $160. You are entering a 64 player qualifying playoff event being run by the USBGF in an attempt to earn a seat to represent the USA in the IBC. The USBGF playoff event is not the IBC. You cannot simply pay 1050 Euro and go straight into the IBC event.

I should also point out that these $160 entries will most likely be sold only to fill any last spots that were not otherwise filled through the various other paths in Stick's list.
