Sometimes the best play (or at least a serious contender) was not even among the evaluation semifinalists so didn't make it into deeper analysis steps.

Of course, if anyone remembers the following position, the best play (all others were blunders) did not even make XG's top 32 candidates at 1-ply. Forget about deeper analysis. The error in XG's 1-ply eval of the correct play was nearly 1.0!
