After my friend spent five hours late one night playing phone tag with Dell tech support on the other side of the world, I never went near Dell again.
I am not a fan of Alienware when compared to Digital Storm and other small boutique gaming oriented vendors. That being said, I didn't buy this LT from DS. I don't need nor want a gaming LT so why spend a couple hundred more for maybe slightly better graphics and display as these are good enough. (If I want to game (my games are low end when it comes to comp usage) this desktop or my other one are more than good enough).
I bought from Best Buy since I wanted it ASAP (ie for the Chicago T) and since it had been reco'd to me by a friend. I lucked out in that Best Buy threw in a free X-Box 360 (well some relative's kid will luck out at Xmas)
Those in the US wanting to mail order purchase a somewhat custom LT my want to look at XoticPC which is well recommended. Of course you can mail order from many places if you want an off the shelf LT like mine.
There may not be much real difference in chip construction between the 2.0 GHz 2630QM and the 2.5 GHz 2920XM so maybe I can overclock the 2630QM slightly. However, this chip is supposed to have some parameters locked (it isn't XM) and Toshiba may have locked other stuff. This weekend I'll see if I can get into the BIOS. Using my laptop cooler, it isn't too hot when I run overnight RO's with XG2 so I have a few degrees to spare and it will still be considerably cooler than my old HP laptop from work.
