Problem 1. Score says earlier cube decisions (both doubles and takes) are somewhat favored. But let's take a look at PRaT. Position -- is White's position really better? Pseudo-TMP? Two back checkers somewhat blocked? Answer: not obvious. Race -- even on the bar Blue has the edge. Threats -- being on the bar almost always qualifies as a threat. 3-6 entry leaves a blot and some other entering rolls start to bury checkers. So White does lead here. Bottom line is that Blue seems to have a clear take, but given the score White may well have a cube, and some Blue's will pass. D+T

Problem 2. How much worse is running next turn going to be, after making the five point homeboard? 2(2)

Problem 3. Stepping up to the edge still leaves Blue behind in the race. There appears to be quite a bit of time to extricate the back checker. I'll grab the race lead. 23/22*, 13/11

Problem 4. My standard play is to not leave the blot. White's four point board is to be respected, EXCEPT it might not be a four point board when White enters with a hit (e.g. {11,12,13}). How much does the score matter? Even with no bonus for gammons, probably not much. If Blue leaves the 6-point open only 6-6 really makes him wish he hadn't, although any entering roll gives White some racing chances. However, if Blue chooses to hit the fact that even a fan by White doesn't leave Blue safe (look at most of Blue's 6-x rolls) and I'm wimping: 6/1*(3), 7/2

Problem 5.What is White afraid of here? I get a takepoint around ~28% cGWC here (and that's with 75% cube ownership equity -- this is the kind of position where that could well be higher). I think White has that with the 18-point alone, so does the back checker increase or decrease those chances? With the cube on 2 and the gammon losses deflated (which, BTW, were factored into the 28% takepoint), I say it helps to stay back. Now the take looks comfortable. Market losers? Maybe, but I'm waiting. Besides, the Rice Rule ought to mean something. N+T
