A wachtel is actually a quail, not far from the pigeon in appearance (and maybe genetically, not sure about that one). So your instincts were right, Stick.

By the way, the experience of playing in this performance-rating tournament was quite unique. The "real" tournament, for reasons cited, had no entry fee and no money prize. All the money (which was not much, anyway) was on the performance rate result. Which allows you to contemplate the jokers and anti-jokers with a kind of Zen-like detachment.
