The modern method

I've recommended this buy pledge method a few times and it has been used but IMO the "newest" method which was used in Chicago and I believe in a Masters last year (WI I think) seems better.
Each of three players automatically receive 1/6 of the pot. One guy gets a bye to the finals. The SF match is played for 1/6 of the pot (winner take all). The finals is played for 1/3 of the pot (winner take all).
It is trivial to see that each player's starting equity is 1/3 of the pot.
Lets see what happens when one of the guys who didn't get a bye wins twice to win the event. This is exactly the same as a RR where one player won the first two matches. He is 2-0 in the play offs and wins and here gets 2/3 of the pot while the other two players at 0-1 share 2nd/3rd places and get 1/6 of the pot each. The old method where the non-byed loser gets only 1/12 of the pot while equitable at 1/3 each to start doesn't result in equal pay for equal records.
When the non bye wins the finals he wins the event and is 1st with half the pot total while the finals loser is 2nd (1-1 record) with 1/3 the pot and the SF loser is 3rd with 1/6.
Off course both methods are equitable, but I prefer the "new" method. All the bye does is to make that player more likely to win trophy and title.
ABT point distribution needs to be changed to reflect possible 3 remaining player issues (as well as others for which we have a fair formula for)
