The modern method

In the original method, the byed player will finish ahead of the non-byed loser if he loses his finals match even though both have the same record.
This is a reason I prefer the new method (in spite of having recommended the original method a few times over the past few years).
Once again, in the new method, lets assume that a non-byed player wins too matches in a row. This is exactly the same as winning a RR so it does make sense to me to have the two losers paid the same since they have exactly the same record and in this case that renders the bye irrelevent.
Re: payouts..lets say that we have a 32 player Masters or Doubles or Jackpot or whatever that is single elim. Typical payouts are 50%,25%,12.5%,12.5%.
Lets see who gets the 12.5%..well these are the two players who lose their first of two possible matches. OK now.. 12.5%=1/8 and noting 3 players rather than 4 .. 4/3 x 1/8 = 1/6 so it does seem fair to me to make sure that the two who don't win a match (when a non-bye wins two in a row) get paid 1/6.
Again looking at when 4 players remain and the winner has won two in a row. He gets 50%. So with 3 players when the winner wins two straight. 1/2 x 4/3 = 2/3 so it does seem reasonable that when a non-bye wins two straight he gets 2/3 of the pot.
