I am not sure if there is much of mental effect.

Even if there is an effect, note that it matters for all players. One player might score a double bogey on a long par 4 which used to be a par 5. The other players will score a par in stead of a birdie.

Are you really suggesting that the mental effect of scoring a double bogie as opposed to a bogie is so much bigger than the mental effect of only scoring a par as opposed to a birdie that it can influence who wins the tournament?

Also note that the hole in question is number 18 which is now a super long par 4. I really doubt that much of a mental effect will carry over to the next day.

I would still like to learn more about the many subtle effects you mention. This was just 1 effect, and 1 I personally have never experienced or heard about.
