"I believe he's 17-8 now. 14 of these matches were on clay and of those 14 Nadal has won 12 of them.

Clay is one surface out of 3 that are commonly used and only 1 of the 4 grand slam events uses it. But 56% of their matches were on clay. Is clay used in a majority of tournaments? Is there another explanation for why seemingly such a lrage %age of thier matches have been on clay?"

I think Nadal was ranked No. 2 for quite a long time without being very successful on other surface than clay. Top seeded players (Federer and Nadal) can`t play each other if one of them would "never" reach any finals
