Suppose they fit the peak

The 'cut' removes the highside tail after the first two rounds. How relevant would the effect be if they fit the peak (after 4 rounds) rather than simply calculating the S.D. from its definition? (I actually don't know which method they use, but suspect it is the simple calculation.)
I don't know if the cut rules have changed since 1960, but suspect they have. I don't remember the "all players within 10 shots of the lead remain" rule before the last 20 years or so. I guess that would make performances prior to that rule look worse than otherwise compared to the post rule performances.
