Gammons/Backgammons

Sadly I have been busy with my day job for the last couple of dayssso missed this debate. Firstly my thanks to Ray Kershaw for defending my corner in my absence!
The figures given in my books tend to reflect the current thinking at the time they are written.
20% was the perceived gammon rate for years but I don't that was based on much empirical evidence. It wasn't until Hal Heinrich challenged that figure, in part based on his huge file of matches, that the debate reignited.
Having read all the foregoing posts I still don't think we have a clear answer to the question of gammon rates. It looks to be in the 20-28% range but where exactly the answer lies within that spectrum certainly isn't clear to me.
I think what is more importnat is understanding/learning the average gammon rate in certain middle game position types so that can knowledge can inform one's cube decisions over the board.
For backgammons I think 1% will do as a working figure as except in extreme situations it is there purely as a point of information!
Regards
Chris
