What I want to use the computer for

I'm a fairly weenie computer user, except I want to run XG. That means I don't really give a crap about a good video card (except that dual monitor ports is worthwhile). Read that as: I'm not doing any hard core gaming. I'd probably want a reasonably large hard drive (300+GB)... I keep getting burned on thinking that I don't need all that space, but photos of my dogs take up too much space. So... processor speed is way more important than a video card.

Spending $500 is a piece of cake. Spending $1000 makes me pause, but for a decent machine I'll pony up. Spending $1500 better get me something that will run XG *and* mow my lawn (as a background job, of course).

My laptop seems semi-functional -- I'm using it now, so I'm not in a huge hurry.
