More than 2 years would be okay providing that there is a sliding scale that places more weight on the more recent data and less on the older stuff. But, that could get tedious to program. That's probably why the voting system came into being.
I'm not a fan of elo. You could get a high elo and then sit on it for years. I did that six years ago, and the site still lists me with my high elo.
I like Bill Davis's ABT points system, because there's a loose correlation between the points and cash won ... only those who make it to the final rounds get any. That's the way it should be, in my opinion.
