The golf equivalent to tennis service % and NFL play choices, would be one of course management, eg. do you hit your driver full speed ahead from the tee, or do you lay up with an iron or hybrid?
That's also a "simple" mathematical equity calculation that you would expect a professional player to have considered. Of course you can be in the zone with your big stick at any given time, or you can have an off day which will affect the calculation.
Some players do their homework, but I suspect that a lot of pros don't even harvest the data needed to do these calculations. I think a lot of the field go by "feeling" for their club and swing when they go onto the tee, rather than make cool rational calculations to decide.
If you go back to when Tiger dominated, it was evident that he picked a strategy according to the course statistics and his knowledge of his own abilities. He hit very few fairways on the "regular" courses but hit the ball a long way, where as his fairway % was top notch when playing the more difficult courses in the majors, cutting down on the distance. The number of "stinger" 2 irons from the tee also varied from course to course.
