Convergence

It is clear to me that convergence will result as long as there is any mixing between populations because the occasional mix moves the average rating of each population in the right direction, whereas the rest of the time (intra-population matches only) the average doesn't move at all since rating changes from each match sum to zero. However this assumes that no new players enter the populations. If new players enter a population, they must be given an initial rating equal to the current average rating of their population. If both populations were to get the same initial rating for new players, if would work in the opposite direction of mixing and could prevent convergence.
