The most important issue is that Ben feels OK about his efforts and the compensation he received. It was my impression that he was satisfied although I don't know that for certain.

I think it is fine to sort through the issues in advance. But, the best way to handle disagreements is to walk away. If someone wants their match recorded, doesn't want to pay and wants to control the distribution of the transcript, the recorder can politely say no and find another match to record.
