In Response To: Recording Matches at BG Events (Stick)

I appreciate Stick framing these questions in a better way then I could, some of my thoughts: David Rockwell is right that I felt satisfied about this weekend. I had a very fun weekend and going in wasn't expecting anything other then to stream the matches. When I was asked about putting them into XG at the start of the weekend I did one or two when I found time but realized quickly that I could not do it for free. I was originally shy about saying it, because I wasn't sure about the ethics involved, so I went to Carol and Stick and got their input.

In the future there are a few things that are going to go differently. Firstly, when I stream a match I will get the players emails and permission to distribute the video file to people and/or you tube. If they want the video file all they would have to do is give me a memory stick or card to put it on, I would have no problem doing this for free because it costs so little of my time to hit the record button. Alternatively I will keep a stash of blank CD's and they can give me a dollar to put it on there. The questions regarding XG Stick posed still seem relatively unanswered so I am unsure on that part still.

I love being able to provide the streams, and the praise and encouragement I relieved this weekend was amazing. I am trying to figure out ways to get quality streams at every tournament I go to because at one point there were over 90 people watching and I want to see backgammon grow. We all know that backgammon isn't like poker in that you could make a tv show out of it, but that is the great thing about social media outlets these days, you can cater to any size audience and always have room to grow. Things go viral in hours now, not months, and maybe with the right combination of teaching backgammon to youth, and using websites like facebook, twitter, and you tube, we can one day have to rent out an entire hotel for the most popular tournaments.
