You think it's more analogous because it's the "same" decision repeated with different outcomes? That's fair enough, but I think it's a bit of an illusion to think that a free throw is exactly the "same" task each time.

In any case, if basketball free throws seem too "lucky" to you, then we can replace it with some other skilled task that doesn't seem so "lucky." Maybe you have to spell a randomly chosen word from the dictionary, or you can even have to solve a backgammon puzzle that is chosen randomly from an enormous corpus of such puzzles. If we do this, are you still tempted to say that we should call it "luck" when you get an easy puzzle to solve? If so, then it would seem that you should also want to call it "luck" when my PR for a particular match comes out lower than usual.
