A lot of candidates.

I start by eliminating the plays that leave more than one blot in our homeboard (e.g. 24/23, 6/2*). Stick still has a five point prime and we do not want to get more checkers behind it.

I still see three candidates:

2*(2). Gives us more time to hit the checker at the back of S's prime. Impure in that we now have a broken prime; leaves only one useful 5.

8/3. The reflexive, thoughtless play (not that this makes it wrong). Solid 5-prime. Those are good.

24/23, 7/4. Plans for the future -- getting more checkers to the edge of S's five prime. If S would promise to stay on the bar we would prefer this.

24/23, 8/4. Keeps our barpoint but leaves a homeboard blot. Don't see why this is better than 24/23, 7/4 (but it could be...).

It's hard to argue with the (five) prime in the hand. Sometimes the thoughtless play is also the thoughtful play.

8/3.
