In Response To: Is XG development dead? (Dale Kerr)

There is only one person who can answer your question as to whether there will be further development of xg. It is clear that he has not done any new development for some time, and it would be wrong for anyone to say why except Xavier.

I will tell you that if Xavier does not choose to do more development, and there are many things that can be done to enhance and improve the program, I am sure that eventually someone else will.

People were shocked when XG came out and sold for $50.00. They refused to believe it could possibly be as good as their beloved Snowie which they paid $400 for. I advised Xavier in the design and marketing of XG and told him that based on how great the program was compared to Snowie, he could easily sell it for $100 or more...even $200.00. He disagreed and it turns out he was right.

I don't know if the net sales was higher at $50 than it would have been at $100....impossible to say, but I suspect it was better, and I am sure he sold a lot more sooner as a result of the lower price. But the lower price has also be a deterrent to competition. The cost to produce and market a competitive, or significantly better product and then only sell it for $50 may just be what has stopped others from producing a better mousetrap.

I won't bore you with my list of things that could make XG better, and I am sure that now that we have much faster processors xg or another product could be far more accurate faster and using deeper rollouts and trials and forms of variance reduction, xg could probably produce better results faster and great improve on some types of positions. Why doesn't Xavier do it?

I have my own opinions and thoughts as to why, but I have too much respect for Xavier, who is one of the people of highest integrity I have ever worked with, to try to make guesses publicly or to divulge any information about it I am aware of.

Having said the above, there are many more things in life to worry about and be dissatisfied with. In XG we have a tool that is damn good and serves us well enough for the game we play. If someone thinks they can build a better mousetrap, and I have no doubt it is possible, and they want to do it, it's a free market. I guarantee you it will happen and I have reason to believe it will happen in the next couple of years or less.
