...it would be increased attendance.
OK, that's obvious and not the answer you're looking for. But regarding events/venues/diversions at/of tournaments, call it my lack of imagination (and please note: I'm old and from the US) but from my viewpoint I don't see significant changes for the weekend helping attendance.
OK, if you force my hand I'd like to see "clocks required" for the Open. (Yes, some tournaments already have that.) But as above, I don't think that helps (or hurts) attendance at any meaningful level.
In order to get more people to attend backgammon tournaments you need more people playing backgammon. It starts at home (or maybe online or at school); a percentage of those will attend clubs and a percentage of those will attend tournaments. It's not as easy to quantify but I suspect the number of players at weekend tournaments is a monotone increasing function of the number of players who attend their local clubs. Similarly the number of players at local clubs depends upon the number who play at home/online/school.
I'll let you decide my skill level category -- there's enough online data to determine that. I'm obviously not a Giant. I've played Open since the end of 1994 -- typically 4 +/- weekends per year. I don't play Masters JP (nor Limited/Amateur JP).
